Governors
At Sambourne, the governors provide a strategic view that sets out the broad framework within which the Headteacher and the staff team run the school. We focus on the school’s vision priorities and statutory responsibilities. The Headteacher and staff report to the governors who offer support and challenge in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for children.
The Governing Body’s specific work takes place through, monitoring meetings and committee meetings. The Full Governing Body meets six times a year and delegates work through to committees and specific governor responsibilities.
Membership of the Governing Body is set out in our Instrument of Government.
Sambourne has a team of dedicated governors representing the local community who give their time and expertise freely to support the school. They are responsible for the strategic direction of the school ensuring clarity of vision and ethos. They support the headteacher and staff in ensuring that the children are taught to a high standard and achieve their potential in a safe and clean learning environment. They approve policies, are involved in staff appointments and oversee the financial performance of the school to make sure the money is well spent.
Governors visit the school regularly and are involved in many different ways. Governors meet as a full governing body six times a year and they are a member of one of two committees which meet termly. The two committees currently are finance and premises and staffing and curriculum. The governors attend training to help them in their role and review their working practices annually to ensure they keep up to date with the latest legislation and national initiatives.
